Jake Young was brought into this world in a tiny Idaho town called Saint Maries. He grew up in various houses throughout Coeur d’ Alene as his step-dad tried to quench his unending thirst for remodeling. His family eventually settled into a home that allowed Jake to spend all four years of his high school career in the same place. He graduated a Timberwolf from Lake City High School in 1997. But as it turns out, that nomadic-type lifestyle had prepared him very well for a career in the military. Since the summer of 1997, Jake has been bouncing around the globe proudly serving this wonderful country of ours. He started out with a four-year tour in the Coast Guard as an electrician. He served at two different units in the Northwest, a small boat station on the north Oregon coast and a large cutter out of Seattle. After completing his tour in 2001, he moved back closer to home to take advantage of his education benefits and start working on a degree. In 2002, he joined the Washington Air National Guard and became a member of the Security Forces Squadron at Fairchild Air Force Base. The main specialties of Security Forces include law enforcement and air base defense. Jake is now part of a specialized group within that squadron whose function is combat weapons training and maintenance. Not only does he enjoy teaching his fellow soldiers, he has a strong gift for mechanics and looks for any opportunity to get his hands dirty and fix something. On New Years’ Day, 2009, Jake finally met the woman of his dreams, Katie. They dated for six months and he popped the question a couple months before leaving for a 6-month tour in Baghdad, Iraq. They were married in the summer of 2010. During this time, Jake and Katie started to feel the tug of God’s heart toward international missions. Katie had previously been affiliated with International Assistance Program (IAP), so Jake jumped on board and they started getting more involved together. In June of 2010, Jake felt God nudging him to get involved in real estate. Realizing the state of the economy and ignoring it anyway, he got his real estate license and started working with John Leland at RE/MAX. Jake and Katie’s heart is truly in it for the glory of the Lord, and they believe that no matter where God leads, He will provide. Their hope is to lead others in their passion for giving and help others to see that this short life is far more than just about self. It’s about what Christ has done FOR us and how He can be glorified THROUGH us, so that the news of the gospel can spread as we live out our faith. |
